To bring the hearts and minds of the people of Yeongcheon, South Korea and Buffalo, USA together for educational, cultural and economic exchanges.
ONGOING PROJECTS
Medaille College American Experience Program:
This program, sponsored by Medaille College, is a 3 week English language immersion for high school students globally. The program was founded in 2013 leveraging the Buffalo-Yeongcheon Sister Cities relationship. In all, around 20 high school students come to Buffalo in July to get the chance to have their English evaluated and improved with Medaille’s certified ESL Staff while seeing everything Buffalo has to offer. The exchange program is capped off with a weekend stay with local Buffalo residents, most of which were selected from the Buffalo-Yeongcheon Sister City membership.
Buffalo First: Korean-American Business Showcase:
This program, still in the planning phase, will highlight WNY-area Korean-owned business. Each business featured will have an ad that will direct our membership where they can get their Korean fix while promoting these exceptional small business owners.
Buffalo-Yeongcheon Five Year Celebration:
In 2012, the Mayors of Buffalo and Yeongcheon signed the official agreement to develop a Sister City relationship. In 2017, which is coming up soon, it will be the 5th anniversary of this historical relationship. In New York State, Buffalo is the first city to have a Sister City relationship with South Korea. Among the festivities being discussed are a possible art exchange with the Cyan Art Gallery and the Albright Knox. Possible hosting some guest speakers such as: a traditional herbal medicine expert, a winter farming expert etc.
We like to promote businesses in Buffalo that sell unique Buffalo products or Korean American businesses in Western New York because of our love of all things Buffalo, and all things Korean.
